Channel Letter Signs
Caribe Graphics Channel Letter Signs
The first thing a customer sees when they walk up to or drive by your business is the signage. You may have window graphics, a lighted cabinet sign or a simple banner but the goal is to catch the customer’s eye and get them to come into your business. Signage is what catches a customer’s eye and begins the sales process.
More and more businesses are opening every day and as they do it becomes increasing difficult to catch a prospective customer’s eye. If you really want to reach out and grab that customer, three dimensional illuminated channel letters are the ideal choice. Because channel letters are 3 dimensional, you really get a unique looking sign that truly demands customer attention.
There are three types of channel letters
The most common type is Standard Channel Letters. These letters are made up of a U-channel base with a colored Plexiglas face.
The second type is called Reverse Channel Letters. These are letters that have metal faces and sides but have a clear plastic backing. These letters are designed to be mounted several centimeters away from the wall. At night these letters create a halo-like effect around the letters.
And the third type of Channel Letters are called “open' face.” These letters are not really “open” because the faces of these letters are clear plastic. This allows for the raw neon to be seen as well as the inside of the U-channel letterform itself. The rest of the letters are built just like Standard Channel Letters. Open Face Channel Letters can really grab attention.
Once the channel of the letter is built, custom-blown neon glass is installed or LED lights are installed. Then the colored letter face is attached to the front of the letter. Each letter is then properly wired to a transformer located in the raceway or remotely, behind the wall, depending on mounting method
There are two different mounting methods for channel letters. One is the raceway mount and the other is called the direct mount.
In the raceway mount the letters are mounted to an aluminum box, called a raceway, and this box is mounted to the wall of a building. The power supplies and all the wires are hidden inside the raceway box.
When the channel letters are fastened directly to the building, it is called the direct mount. Holes must be drilled through the wall to feed the wiring and attach it to an inside power supply. While direct mounting may offer the sign a cleaner look, raceway mounting is easier to install and is therefore less expensive.
In the past there was only one option for illuminating the channel letters and it was blown glass neon. However today, channel letters can be illuminated using LED lights. Many companies today are requesting LED lights to illuminate their signage because of the substantial energy savings over traditional neon. A string of LED lights is placed at the back of the channel letters and it can be set up to offer amazing lighting effects. LED lights are very efficient and incredibly bright which will allow your storefront sign to stand out from the crowd.
For high profile signage applications, three dimensional illuminated channel letters are an ideal choice.
